Some time ago, I had the good fortune to attend a lecture by a Nobel Prize winner in astrophysics who began by saying, to the astonishment and bewilderment of all those present, «Life on this planet is possible because the sun and the moon are the same size».
Obviously, they are not the same size, although at first glance in the sky they seem to be.
What is the same is the gravitational influence they exert on our beloved world. Curiously, the average distance between the Earth and the Sun is 108 suns.
And the average distance between the Earth and the Moon is 108 moons. Interesting, isn’t it? There is more. The diameter of the Sun is 400 times larger than the Moon, and the Sun is 400 times farther away than the Moon. Our solar system is full of amazing coincidences that have led scientists to claim that it seems to be the work of an intelligent design devised to host and develop life.
For example, the Moon has played a key role in stabilizing our wobbling planet, and slowing its cycles enough so that the broth of life could develop without boiling or freezing.
Without the Moon, the Sun, and the stars, there would be no life on Earth.
Our entire solar system, with its planets, both the outer giants and the inner rocky ones, act as the fuselage of an immense spaceship in which our blue planet is the cockpit, rotating faster than the speed of sound, and traveling along the outer edge of the Milky Way at a million kilometers per hour. The Sun is the power source of this spacecraft.
The Moon governs its cycles and operation. The stars provide the material that makes it up.
Everyone and everything, you, me, the rocks, the sea, the sky…
We are all made of material that was previously cooked in the stars and distributed throughout the universe by the supernovae of yesteryear.
